Antichissimo ceppo dei dinasti della contea di Cesena. Albertino, Gabriele e Satillo, di Zumelle, signori della Val di Salce e S. Bartolomeo nel bellunese, il 21 dic. dell'anno 1175, acquistarono il feudo di Cesena da Guglielmo Camposampiero. Da Albertino discese Vergerio, che originò la linea die conti di Cesena e che ritenne come cognome il nome del capostipite. Ezzelino, nel 1311, fu confermato nel feudo da Enrico VII e Pietro pure investito nel 1321 da Can Grande della Scala, reinvestitura ottenuta poi da Passaguerra nel 1354 da Carlo IV; da Vittore, nel 1389, da Gian Galeazzo Visconti e finalmente, nel 1404, dal Senato Veneto. I conti di Cesena con l'andare del tempo si divisero in molti rami e la prima suddivisione fra i fratelli aveva dato luogo a due altre casate, i Colle ed i Mozzi, mentre un Lorenzo, nel 1468, essendo egli soprannominato Rubeo, aveva originato
