Illustre e virtuoso casato romana, la cui antichità è resa incontestabile da quanto appare su una lapide sepolcrale, sita nella Chiesa di Santa Maria in Araceli, databile 1316, nella quale stavano le armi di detta Casa di mosaico. Le parole attorno la lapide, infatti, recitano: "Pauli Aversi de Urbe A. 1316". Purtroppo, però, le notizie storiche tramandateci, relativamente a tal famiglia, ricominciano solo nel 1510, ossia nell'anno in cui il nobiluomo Sebastiano Versa, del rione Trastevere, divenne camerlengo del Campidoglio del Salvatore, come evincesi dal catasto di detto anno. Un Giuliano, di Lello Aversa, invece, fu marito di Ludovica di Pallini, sempre nel rione di Trastevere, ed entrambi furon sepolti in Santa Maria in Trastevere . Antonina de Aversa, poi, fu moglie di Giulio de Ruggieri di Sutri. Circa dal 1545, un ramo di cotal famiglia, colò nei Ruggieri ,abitando Gasparo Ruggieri la Casa degli Versa, sita in Trastevere.
