Famiglia originaria da Barga. Il dott. Cristofano, di messer Niccolò, lettore di medicina nella Università di Pisa e dei priori di Volterra nel 1737, fu con decreto 19 dicembre 1757 ascritto per giustizia con i suoi discendenti maschi e femmine nel Libro d'Oro dei nobili volterrani. La famiglia è iscritta nell'Elenco Ufficiale Nobiliare Italiano col titolo di nobile di Volterra (mf.), in persona di: Amaretto, di Alessandro, di Cristofano. Figli: Alessandro, Elena, Alfonso. Discendenti da Francesco, di Cristofano. Altro ramo. Antica ed illustre famiglia originaria di Barga in provincia di Lucca. Fu fregiata del titolo di nobile. La presenza del motto nella bibliografia documentata della famiglia ci conferma l'avita nobiltà raggiunta della casata. Infatti l'origine del motto risale a circa il XIV secolo e deve essere ricercata in quei detti arguti che venivano scritti sui vessilli o bandiere dei cavalieri, esposti alle finestre delle locande in cui questi alloggiavano, in
