Antico ed assai nobile casato emiliano di cui troviamo due rami familiari nobili in Bologna, uno detto Vetri e l'altro da i Vetri, entrambi propagati, nel corso del tempo, in diverse regioni limitrofe. Nell'opera "Il Blasone bolognese, cioè Arme gentilizie di famiglie bolognesi, nobili, cittadinesche e aggregate" di Floriano Canetoli realizzata tra il 1791 e il 1795 troviamo raffigurati entrambi gli stemmi dei casati ed anche negli armoriali Italiani troviamo menzionato il secondo. Un'altra famiglia Vetri da Firenze, Santa Maria Novella, Unicorno fu ascritta alla nobiltà fiorentina e, probabilmente, si tratta di un terzo ramo familiare del casato.

Blasone della famiglia Vetri da Bologna ricostruito da un disegno conservato presso la Biblioteca Comunale dell'Archiginnasio di Bologna nell'opera "Il Blasone bolognese, cioè Arme gentilizie di famiglie bolognesi, nobili, cittadinesche e aggregate" di Floriano Canetoli realizzata tra il 1791 e il 1795.
