Questo è un ramo della famiglia omonima di Siena, che assunse il secondo cognome per testamento dell'arcidiacono Giuseppe ultimo del suo nome, in data 3 ott. 1799. La famiglia una delle più illustri, fra le famiglie di Siena, non tanto per l'antichità delle origini, quanto per la fama di Pandolfo, signore di Siena, che la portò al rango di famiglia sovrana. Ne è capostipite Cambio, che fu del consiglio della Campana nel 1260 mentre suo figlio Petruccio ebbe lo stesso ufficio nel 1296. Nicoluccio di Petruccio, con cui consolidò il cognome della famiglia, fu provveditore di Biccherma nel 1340 e suo figlio Tommaso fu dei Consigli nel 1383, mentre un altro figlio, Antonio fu cavaliere di Malta e commendatore di Monticchiello.
