Antica e laboriosa famiglia, la qual proviene da una vallata del Bergamasco. Un Lorenzo venne a Venezia ancor fanciullo, e fece il povero garzoncello di bottega presso Cristoforo Orsetti, negoziante di malvasia in Salizzada S. Lio. Divenne poi agente, e avvenuta la morte del padrone, rimase tutore dei piccoli figliuoli in compagnia d'un negoziante di droghe, suo cognato, che pure morendo, gli lasciò la condotta del negozio e l'azienda della casa. Con questi mezzi, aiutato dalla sua industria ed attività, e facendo fruttare gli altrui capitali, ne costituì uno di sua ragione in modo, che potè offrire 100 mille ducati al suo Principe per la guerra di Candia, per cui nel 18 febbraio 1684 la famiglia venne ascritta alla veneta nobiltà, avendo riportato in Senato il 15 febbraio detto anno voti favorevoli 141, contrari 20, non sinceri 7, ed essendo stato approvata la parte nel Maggior Consiglio con voti favorevoli
