Antica ed assai nobile famiglia toscana, con residenza nella città di Firenze, gonfalone Santo Spirito, quartiere Nicchio, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. Ammessa alle magistrature nel 1320, questa illustre casata, da quell'anno al 1531, dette alla repubblica cinque gonfalonieri e quarantatré priori. Il primo dei gonfalonieri fu, nel 1345, un Vettori, di Boccaccio, il quale sostenne per la patria innumerevoli ambascerie. Neri, suo fratello, presiedé alla guerra di Lucca, nel 1341. I di lui figli, Giannozzo ed Andrea, divisero in due rami la famiglia. Giovanni, di Giannozzo, tramandò la sua posterità sino a noi, essendo mancata la sua linea maschile in Firenze nel 1815 per morte del cav. Domenico, ultimo di questo ramo. Andrea, figlio dell'ambasciatore al re di Francia Neri Vettori, fu stipite del secondo ramo, tuttora fiorente, e, nel 1404, fu podestà di Padova e quindi
