Antica e assai nobile famiglia dell'Emilia Romagna, di chiara e avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e d'Europa. La culla di questa illustre prosapia si rinviene nella città di Parma, alla cui nobiltà appartennero sin da tempi molto antichi. Successivamente i Vezzani ebbero nobile dimora anche nelle città di Bologna, Reggio Emilia, Milano, Piacenza e Trieste ma anche nel Canton Ticino, precisamente in Mendrisio e in Lugano. Tra i primi personaggi del casato ricordiamo Goffredo, canonico Cameracense eletto vescovo di Parma, da Bonifacio VIII, in data 1 aprile 1299. Ancor prima si ha memoria di Gualtiero, sacerdote, il quale fu cappellano di Papa Innocenzo IV, poi arcidiacono di Luni e nel 1253 fu eletto arcivescovo di Genova; morì il 7 settembre 1274, lasciando ricordo di uomo di grande pietà e virtù. Nel secolo XV si hanno notizie di un Cristoforo, di Gherardo, vivente nel 1478,
