Família antiga no patrocínio da cidade de Salerno do Seggio di Portava, que alguns autores querem ter chegado ao reino com os normandos, outros com os suábios. As memórias mais antigas são encontradas em Venosa; para o qual, nos tempos antigos, também era chamado "de Venusio"; e assim foi chamado Roberto, carrasco imperial de Venosa, em 1197. Giacomo, cavaleiro e camareiro da rainha Giovanna I, em 1362 obtido de Americo Sanseverino, um grande concorrente do reino, os feudos de Monteforte, rei de Monticelli, San Pietro; e trouxe sua família para Salerno. Quivi distinguiu essa família em dois ramos, um dos quais extinto na família Correale, nobre em Sanseverino. Recebido, por justiça, na SM Ordem de Malta, de 1623, em pessoa do cav.
