Di origine alemanna, fu trapiantata in Venezia da un Giovanni in principio del XVII secolo, il quale fu capo dei facchini nel fondaco dei Tedeschi. Ebbe questi così prodigiosa fortuna ne' suoi negozi, che potè accumulare straordinarie ricchezze eccedenti la condizione di privato, e comperò dall'Imp. Casa d'Austria la contea di Ortemburgo e la baronia di Paterniano e Sumerech in Carinzia. Cristoforo, di lui figlio, fu creato Cardinale di S. R. Chiesa da Innocenzo X il 7 ott. 1647. Gli altri figli di Giovanni, avendo offerto alla Repubblica centomila ducati per la guerra di Candia, furono nel 1646 aggregati al patriziato veneto. David, uno di questi, fu colonnello e quindi sergente generale, ossia maggior di battaglia delle milizie pontificie, con le quali da Papa Innocenzo fu mandato contro il duca di Parma, e distrusse Castro nel 1649.
