Unter den alten Adelsfamilien der Lombardei lebte die Familie immer berühmt, da sie zu jeder Zeit herrliche Untertanen in Waffen und Briefen zur Welt brachte. Br. Simone di Leontino, Bischof von Syrakus, schreibt in seiner Geschichte von Sizilien, dass sie mit einer Kolonie von Langobarden von der Lombardei nach Sizilien überging, in der Zeit, als Graf Ruggiero Normando gegen die Mauren in Sizilien führte, die Gründer der Stadt der Piazza und Terra d'Aydone.
