Originally from Borgo S. Lorenzo, it took the surname from a Villano son of Stoldo di Bollicine, the first of which can be found in Florence. Sons of Stoldo were the famous Giovanni and Matteo, the first of whom was de 'priori in 1317, 1321 and 1328, a master of mint and who in 1325 found himself present at the battle of Altopascio, and was the author of his celebrated stories continued after his death from his brother Matteo, whose sons Filippo and Giovanni.
