De Cataluña y Valencia. Canadal de V., doncel de la veguería de Gerona, fue convocado a Cortes, por Alfonso III, desde Sant Cugat, en mayo de 1419. Guillermo V., procedente de Cataluña, estuvo cinco años cautivo en Argel y asistió luego a la conquista de Valencia, donde fue intérprete de Jaime I. Por referencias de historiadores de la época y otras averiguadas por Araldis en los archivos registrales de ciudades y otros privados, podríamos afirmar, pero no asegurar, que este escudo u otro muy similar a él, apareció inicialmente desde el siglo XI al XIV, particularmente en la negociación llevada a cabo en el concilio de Palencia en que se anuló el matrimonio de Doña Urraca, reina de Castilla y León desde 1109 a 1126, con Alfonso I el batallador rey de Aragón y Navarra. Todo ello parece coincidir con la memoria familiar de algunos de los miembros de la rama de la familia Villarnau.
