Adelsfamilie, ursprünglich aus Frankreich und eigentlich aus Lothringen. Es erhielt seinen Namen von der Signoria de la Ville sur Illon in der Nähe von Mirecourt. Saint Alleis schrieb 1876 im Nobiliaire de France über diese Familie und nannte Jean oder Janin als den ersten Lord de Ville, Ritter, der 1149 lebte und an den sich auch der Abt von Verdun in seiner Cartulaire-Kunst erinnerte. 38. Ein Zweig dieser Familie ging mit Savary de la Ville sur Illon, Gilbertos zweitem Sohn, nach Italien und ließ sich in Quiners im Piemont nieder.
