Familia noble, originaria de Francia y propiamente de Lorena. Tomó su nombre de la Signoria de la Ville sur Illon, cerca de Mirecourt. Saint Alleis escribió sobre esta familia en el Nobiliaire de France 1876, nombrando a Jean o Janin como el primer señor de Ville, caballero, viviendo en 1149, también recordado por el abad de Verdun en su Cartulaire, art. 38. Una rama de esta familia fue a Italia con Savary de la Ville sur Illon, el segundo hijo de Gilberto, y se estableció en Quiners, en el Piamonte. Allí contrajo parentesco noble y fue recibido en la Orden SM de Malta; Tenía caballeros en la Orden de San Maurizio y obispo de Ivrea. Se dividió en tres líneas principales: la de Alsacia y Nápoles desciende de Andrea, tercera del nombre, conde de Ville, segundo hijo de Antonio (1530).
