Família nobre, originária da França e propriamente de Lorena. Ele recebeu o nome da Signoria de la Ville sur Illon, perto de Mirecourt. Saint Alleis escreveu sobre esta família no Nobiliaire de France 1876, nomeando Jean ou Janin como o primeiro senhor de Ville, cavaleiro, vivendo em 1149, também lembrado pelo abade de Verdun em seu Cartulaire, art. 38. Um ramo desta família foi para a Itália com Savary de la Ville sur Illon, o segundo filho de Gilberto, e se estabeleceu em Quiners, no Piemonte. Lá, ele contratou parentesco nobre e foi recebido na Ordem SM de Malta; ele tinha cavaleiros na Ordem de San Maurizio e um bispo de Ivrea. Foi dividido em três linhas principais: a da Alsácia e Nápoles descende de Andrea, terceiro do nome, conde de Ville, segundo filho de Antonio (1530).
