Antichissima famiglia del regno di Napoli, derivata dalla celebre stirpe dei Marzano, passata a Rimini nel secolo XI e a Piacenza nel secolo XV. Lanfranco, figlio di Rinaldo de' Marzani feudatario del castello di Misciano in Terra d'Otranto da Napoli trapiantava nella prima metà del secolo XI a Rimini la propria famiglia. Quivi i fratelli Marazano I e Paolo nel 1120 costruirono un castello che da nome della famiglia chiamarono Marazano, di cui ottennero l'investitura feudale dall'imperatore Lotario II il 15 maggio 1125. I Marzano, detti poi Marazzano, salirono nella nuova sede in grande autorità e potenza, sostenendovi eminenti cariche, fra cui quella di pretore imperiale di Rimini affidata nel 1119 ad un Paolo e nel 1162 ad un Drudo. Si incontra più tardi un Giovanni, cortigiano di Enrico VI nel 1194; nel 1341 un Melchiorre, cameriere di Giovanni e Luchino Viscontini, duchi di Milano, e quindi connestabile; un
