Nome de família estrangeira registada nos livros de armas antigo como o Livro do Armeiro-mor, do ano de 1509, que traz as armas correspondentes debaixo da rubrica de "Gil vant Ouvistet" ou "Gil vant Vistet", o Tesouro da Nobreza de Portugal, que cita o Livro dos Reis de Armas, desaparecido no terramoto de 1755, no qual elas se donominavam de "Gilvaz Veniste". Evidentemente ambas as formas estão corruptas e não se sabe o nome certo da perssoa a quem pertenciam e que, decerto, serviu em Portugal pelo que teve o acrescentamento da Cruz de Cristo, que D. Manuel I y também concedeu a Volfgango Holzschuer em 1503. Timbre: as duas alabradas do escudo atadas de vermelho.
