Originaria di Altino, si trapiantò in Venezia sotto il dogato di Angelo Partecipazio. Nel 1153 era fra le nobili di Venezia, nel 1270 fu aggregata all'ordine degli Ottimati, nel 1297 confermata nella nobiltà veneta, e da ultimo, con sovrana risoluzione 16 Dic. 1817 riconfermata dall'Imperat. d'Austria. Ha essa sostenuto le prime cariche della Repubblica, cui à dato in ogni tempo illustri cittadini. Marco fu uno dei nove e duca di Candia nel 1234; Daniele nel 1260 sconfisse la flotta unita dei Genovesi e dei Pisani, prendendo otto navi ai primi e cinque ai secondi; altro Daniele fu ambasciatore al Re d'Ungheria, e nel 1433 generale in capo contro i Milanesi; Benedetto capitano a Vicenza, poi podestà e provveditore a Treviso, nel 1453 fu spedito duca in Candia dove sedò una pericolosa ribellione, e al suo ritorno fu fatto consigliere di città, savio di terraferma, avogador di Comun, capo dei quaranta,
