Família de bastante antiguidade, cuja origem se não conhece, mas que, certamente, provém de pessoa que teve a profissão de advogado, na linguagem antiga vogado. Por 1332 vivia em Lisboa um cidadão honrado que se chamava Afonso Anes V., que do seu matrimónio deixou un filho por nome João V. procurador de Câmara de Lisboa por 1345, a quem D. Afonso IV concedeu vários privilégios para a sua quinta de Almourol, na qual lhe chama o seu vogado e porteiro-mor, pelo que parece teria profissão de advogar e, por essa menção talvez se deva admitir que foi este o primeiro que assim se chamou, não cabendo, ainda a seu pai tal designação familiar. Foi casado e deixou um filho que se chamou Gonçalo Afonso V., também morador em Lisboa. Dele e de sua mulher Isabel Anes descendem os do apelido. Timbre: o leão do escudo sainte, carregado de uma vieira de vermelho na espádua.
