Nobile famiglia di Recanati, ma oriunda da San Gemignano in quel di Siena. Riconosce per suo capostipite Salvatore, che fu crociato a Gerusalemme con l'imperatore Federico II. Gran capitano, ebbe il comando supremo delle truppe a Ioppe e morì da prode sul campo di battaglia. Marzio, suo figlio, visse dal 1198 al 1251; anche egli guerreggiò in Palestina e tornato in Italia fissò la sua dimora in Recanati. Per questo Comune fu inviato ambasciatore all'imperatore Federico II onde ringraziarlo della concessione della spiaggia e del porto, e l'imperatore, ricordando la fedeltà e le prodezze di Salvone, suo padre, conferì a lui e a tutti i suoi discendenti il titolo di conte palatino imperiale col predicato di Nussignano o Massignano (Ascoli Piceno). Il diploma imperiale dato da Cremona 7 settembre 1249, conservasi presso il principe Antici Mattei di Roma, giacchè è unico per la concessione del titolo di conte palatino di
