Famiglia bergamasca, trapiantatasi a Fiume e poi a Venezia. Giuseppe, n. a Venezia il 19 nov. 1877 raro esempio di attività ed intelligenza, fece assurgere questa famiglia all'attuale splendore. Si può dire egli sia il rinnovamento della città di Venezia, non solo, ma il ricostruttore del Veneto industriale. Quale ministro plenipotenziario di S.M. Vittorio Emanuele II si deve a lui più che ad altro il trattato di pace di Losanna tra l'Italia e la Turchia; Governatore della tripolitania dette meraviglioso impulso a quella colonia; fu ministro delle Finanze; è senatore del regno e ministro di Stato. Con R.D. di motu proprio di S.M. Vittorio Emanuele III, Re d'Italia, del 6 marzo e RR.LL.PP. 8 maggio 1913 ebbe la concessione del titolo di nobile per ambo i sessi; successivamente con R.D. di motu proprio 23 dic. 1920 e RR.LL.P. 24 febbraio 1921 ebbe la concessione del titolo di conte con successione
