Família de origem muito antiga, cuja existência em Terra di Bari remonta ao século XII (Staso, 1135), mas a linhagem difundida na Idade Média nas regiões de Nápoles e Amalfi e em outros lugares da Campânia já aparece. nos documentos do ano 1027. Estes de Puglia gozavam de nobreza cívica na cidade de Molfetta desde tempos imemoriais. No século XIV, o juiz Pietro, de Pasquale, transferiu seus descendentes para o Giovinazzo próximo, em cuja praça nobre foi imediatamente aceita. A linhagem de Molfetta desapareceu no outono do século XVII e um de seus ramos terminou em Silvia, casado (1614) com Giovan Antonio di Giovinazzo, de onde os Giovinazzese se exercitam enquanto ainda exerciam o patrocínio naquela cidade, retornando para sua casa em Molfetta.
