Famiglia di assai antica origine, la cui esistenza, in Terra di Bari, risale documentariamente al secolo XII (Staso, 1135), ma il casato, parecchio diffuso nel medio evo nelle regioni di Napoli e di Amalfi ed in altri posti della Campania già appare nei documenti dell'anno 1027. Questi di Puglia godevano da tempo immemorabile la civica nobiltà nella città di Molfetta. Nel secolo XIV il giudice Pietro, di Pasquale, trasferì la sua discendenza nella vicina Giovinazzo nella cui piazza nobile venne subito accolta. La linea di Molfetta si estinse sul cadere del secolo XVII ed una delle sue diramazioni finì in Silvia, sposata (1614) a Giovan Antonio di Giovinazzo da dove il ceppo giovinazzese pur sempre esercitando il patriziato in quella città, riportò la sua dimora a Molfetta. Nella seconda metà del secolo XVIII il giureconsulto Vincenzo trapiantò la famiglia nella città di Napoli. La fam. strinse
