Sono nobili ed antichi cittadini genovesi venuti alla città nel XII secolo. Un Bernardo Ottone andò ambasciatore nel 1155 a papa Adriano IV in Benevento, per presentare lagnanza contro certi provenzali, che avevano fatto torti ai genovesi; ed il Papa scrisse a tre vescovi di Provenza per ingiungere la dovuta riparazione. Nel 1188 Ermes sottoscrisse alla pace con i Pisani. Un decreto di cittadinanza fu emesso nel 1471 a favore di benedetto Ottone da Moneglia. Carlo Ottone fu ambasciatore della Serenissima Repubblica a Londra dal 1670 al 1698. Interessantissime sono le lettere da lui scritte al Governo della Repubblica, pubblicate in Atti dalla Società Ligure di Storia Patria per cura del prof Francesco Poggi, vol. XVL e L. Nel 1610 Bartolomeo, e nel 1702, 1806 Stefano, furono notari a Rapallo; nel 1613 Geronimo e nel 1762 Guglielmo furono ivi vicari. nel 1746 un Giovanni Battista "paramentaro", non appartenente però a
