La famiglia é l'unico ramo che rimanga dei Colonna Signori di Gallicano, essendosi l'altro spento nel 1429. Prende origine da Matteo di Odoardo che si stabilì in Tivoli quando il fratello Giacomo-Antonio vi fu vescovo - 1210 - 1219. E' questo il vescovo cui si riferisce il miracolo di S. Francesco, ricordato da Giotto nell'affresco della Basilica superiore in Assisi. Angelo, di Oddone, di Matteo, viene denominato B. (da brigare) soprannome che compare la prima volta nel testamento del figlio Giovanni e che la famiglia conserverà a distinzione degli altri rami dei Colonna. - Morì nel 1348- lapide tombale in S. Andrea di Tivoli. A lui, che insieme col figlio Giovanni, combatté contro Cola da Rienzo, papa Clemente VI scriveva da Avignone la lettera ricordata da Gregorovius chiamandoli "domicelli tiburtini". A Giovanni di Angelo il Petrarca dedica la commedia "Philologia", e a lui probabilmente si riferisce la lettera N.
