Ancient and noble German Catholic family, with main branches in Bavaria, Berlin and Cologne, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. This surname derives from the noun meaning "weaver". It is in fact an occupational name, referring to "a maker of cloth". Originally from Upper Franconia, the male line starts with Friedrich Weber (died 1739), huntsman of the Prince Bishop of Bamberg and mayor of Marktleugast. Georg Michael Weber, president of the Royal Bavarian Court of Appeals in Neuburg on the Danube, later Appeals Court vice president in Amberg, received the personal knighthood upon being awarded the rank of Commander of the Order of Merit of the Bavarian Crown on 19 May 1808 and his descendants were included among the knightly class in the Kingdom of Bavaria on 28 May 1813.
