Friedereich Windischgrätzer 1296 Graz Landschreiber Konrad 1310 Lättnitz Hofschmied Ditherus 1424 Alsheim Bäuerlein Ortsname Windisch Graz (im Jahre 1259 war Windischgrätz) in der Steiermark Windischgrätzer Obwohl keine sicheren Angaben zur Datierung des geschichtlichen Ursprungs und zu seiner Zuordnung zu einem bestimmten Gebiet vorhanden sind, ist ein Nachweis des Adels über die Deutung des Wappens möglich. Seit Beginn des 15. Jahrhunderts lockerte sich die Verbindung des Wappens mit dem Landbesitz immer mehr, da die Wappenvergabe auf immer größere Personenkreise und Familien aus den Bürgerräten, Inhaber bestimmten Ämter oder Handel- und Gewerbetreibende ausgedehnt wurde.

Écartelé; aux 1. et 4. de gueules à une tête et col de loup d'argent languée de gueules (Windischgrätz) celle du 1. contournée; au 2. de sable, à trois annelets d'or (Waldstein) au 3. de sable au chevron d'argent et au chef du même (Wolfsthal). Sur le tout écartelé a. et d. de gueules, au gonfalon d'argent (Pfannstetten); b. et c. d'argent, à la barre de sable (Schalleck). Sur le tout du tout de gueules, à une tête de poisson d'or en bande (Gradner). Trois casques couronnés. Cimiers 1° la tête de loup du 1 Lambrequin d'argent et de gueules 2° l'arête de poisson brochant en fasce sur trois plumes d'autruche de gueules Lambrequin d'or et de gueules 3° un écran circulaire de sable ch. de six annelets d'or en orle. Lambrequin d'or et de sable. Supports deux loups regardants au naturel Manteau de gueules frangé d'or doublé d'hermine sommé d'une couronne princière. (Les comtes du nom portent ces armes sans manteau)
