Of Austrian origin, the W.s settled in Ferrara in the 18th century to practice the goldsmith's art there, from father to son. Giovanni (1721) and Giacomo (1775) were councilors of the 3rd Order for the art of goldsmiths. Father Rinaldo was prior of the Certosini in 1765. In 1841 they were ascribed among the citizens of first rank. By Ducal Chirograph 14 August 1847 Maurizio, fu Giovanni (born 1786) obtained the title of nobleman of the Modena Conservatory Order. The same, waiter of honor of sword and cape of SS with brief of Pope Pius IX, dated 7 August 1852, authorized to add the motto Fidelitas to the 1st quarter of his coat of arms; the following year, on 26 April, the Duke of Modena, Francesco V, granted him the privilege of placing the white Estense eagle on a blue field in the 1st quarter of the shield.
