Querem alguns autores que esta família seja de Itália, porém a designação familiar existe em Espanha há muitos séculos e provém do patronímico do nome propio Ximeno, frequente nos primeiros séculos do segundo milénio da nossa era. Os que afirmam ser de origem italiana dizem que de Florença passou a Portugal, Andrés X. que outros indicam por natural de Navarra, e que se casou com sua sobrinha D.
