Antica famiglia francese, di chiara ed avita virtù, sorta dall'unione di due altrettanto nobili casati: l'uno, quello degli Iacchia, oriundo di Nantes, l'altro, quello degli Yahya, di remote origini saracene, passata a risiedere, primieramente in Portogallo, ove fiorì quel Yahya ibn Ya'ish, scomparso intorno al 1150, il quale fu Visir del Re Alfonso I. Da costui discesero eminenti personaggi, distintisi nelle scienze mediche, nelle umane lettere e nella religione. In ogni modo, un ramo della famiglia Yahya passò risiedere in Francia, ove si imparento con il casato degli Iacchia; da qui il doppio cognome. La famiglia Yahya Iacchia, infatti, già nel tardo XIII secolo, compare in Genova, durante le lotte fratricide tra Guelfi e Ghibellini, in quella babele di anime esasperate, di voci diverse, in cui la madre lingua latina si frammischiava coi barbarismi dialettali e irrobustiva, nel tempo stesso, il dolce idioma italiano, tanto che il cognome usciva variamente
