Ancient Apulian family, which spread over the centuries in different regions of Italy. This very ancient cognominization should derive, directly or through hypocoristics, from Zaccaro, an archaic form for Zaccaria or directly from the name Zaccaria, according to others it could derive from the dialectal term zaccaro (little boy, child). Unfortunately, the shortage of the scriptures deprives us of the noblest curiosities that one could wish for; however, in the names of the Zaccaro, they have been counted in documents and notarial deeds, since the earliest times, from which their high condition appears. We remember, among the many: Zaccaria Zaccaro, public prosecutor, in Bologna, in 1207; Lorenzo, a very high priest, meritorious of the philological and aesthetic sciences, member of the Chamber of Deputies, in 1861; Francis, canon, living in the 19th century; Luciano, first-class vice-director, at the prisons of Naples, in 1865.
