Le prime memorie di questo ramo della famiglia risalgono a Guglielmo che fu podestà di Genova verso la metà del secolo XIII, e che ebbe per nipote Antonio che fu investito di Mombarcelli il 19 maggio 1329 dall'imperatore Lodovico il Bavaro, e che avendo acquistato da Emanuele Traversagni porzioni di Vinchio ne fu investito dallo stesso imperatore con diploma di pari data coi feudi di Montaldo e Monbarone. Procreò costui Giovannone, Oddone, Giacomo, Matteo e Tomeno, i quali essendosi arricchiti considerevolmente nelle Fiandre, ove tenevano banchi di credito, acquistarono il 7 febbraio 1337 dal marchese Manfredo di Saluzzo per 110.000 fiorini d'oro di Firenze numerosissimi feudi e cioè Cortemiglia, Vernetto, Perletto, Torre d'Uzzone, Saleggio, Cairo e sua castellata, Rocchetta Cairo, Carcare, Bubbio, Monastero, per alcuno dei quali riportarono investitura dal marchese di Monferrato il 18 luglio 1337 e il 4 giugno 1340.
