La famiglia Zanche è di antichissima origine bergamasca. Il suo cognome si lega al nome di un paesello di Val Brembana, sito tra Zogno e Poscanto, detto Grumello de Zanchi. Essa è molto diffusa in Bergamo e fuori. I Zanche ottennero diplomi d'antica cittadinanza della città di Bergamo, di Cefalonia, 1672, di Venezia, 1743 e 1775, di Bergamo, 1777, di Olera, 1779, di Fara di Nese e di Alzano Maggiore, 1784, di Seriate, di Poscante, di Ambivere, 1785. Però non è dato scoprire di tutti questi membri uno stipite comune. Gli alberi delle cittadinanze ci conducono al sec. XIV a tre diversi stipiti: Zanno, di Mariono, Costanzo, di Belfante e Giovanni, di Pezzolo. I Zanche de Locatelli ebbero palazzo in Bergamo in via Tassis, ora Coleoni, e grandiosa villa al Gromo presso Mapello, ora La Torre.
