Antica e nobilissima famiglia del Cadore, di chiara e ancestrale virtù, che nei secoli si è diffusa in tutto il mondo. La tradizione vuole che il suo capostipite fosse il cavaliere Giovanni Di Donella di Stalnovo, che fiorì nel XV secolo. Fu infatti soprannominato Zanni Di Donella da cui poi fu preso il cognome Zandonella. Ebbe tre figli: Francesco, Giacomo e Osvaldo. Quest'ultimo, dopo aver servito negli eserciti di Carlo IV e di Venceslao di Lussemburgo, ottenne la nobiltà e il privilegio di includere nel suo stemma l'aquila imperiale; stemma di cui purtroppo è andata perduta la descrizione complessiva, assente anche negli archivi di stato. Segnaliamo anche un altro stemma (alias) la cui descrizione è tramandata ma la cui origine originaria è purtroppo sconosciuta. Poiché Osvaldo morì senza discendenza, la sua eredità e il titolo nobiliare andarono al fratello Giacomo che insieme all'altro fratello Francesco diede continuità alla famiglia. Francesco
