Ancient and very noble family of Cadore, of clear and ancestral virtue, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. Tradition has it that its progenitor was the knight Giovanni Di Donella di Stalnovo, who flourished in the 15th century. He was in fact nicknamed Zanni Di Donella from which the surname Zandonella was then taken. He had three sons: Francesco, Giacomo and Osvaldo. The latter, having served in the armies of Charles IV and Wenceslaus of Luxembourg, obtained the nobility and the privilege of including the imperial eagle in his coat of arms; coat of arms of which unfortunately the overall description has been lost, absent even in the state archives. We also report another coat of arms (alias) whose description is handed down but whose original source is unfortunately unknown.
