No hay información cierta ni sobre los orígenes, ni sobre la fecha en que esta familia alcanzó ese grado de prosperidad económica y prominencia en la vida pública de la ciudad de Faenza. La primera noticia está contenida en la crónica del abad Mittarelli, quien en 1184 da noticias de un legado de numerosas tierras y casas hechas por el dominus Zanellus de Zinganigo a la Iglesia de S. Maria foris portam en favor de su alma.
