Essendomi noto, che l'abbate Gamurini ha ferito molto diffusamente di questa nobile ed antica famiglia derivata da Firenze, ne volendo io preterire il mio ordine, che è di non uscire furono della patria, non posto se non restringermi a quanto ne discorre l'Archivio pubblico della nostra Città, che in tutto non discordia da ciò, ch'egli aserisse in ordine all'origine di questa, come si vede dal detto Archivio. E trovandosi pure nel detto archivio nel 1270 ne' Memoriali di Francesco da Pontecchio Notaro un Bonaparte Zani di Firenze, che cede a Giovanni di Lambertino Zovenoni un Credito di lir. 100 che acquistò dal detto comune di Bologna, per l'imposizione fatta a Toscani dal detto Comune e nel 1332 vedendosi descritto nella nostra compagnia Militare de' Toschi, Duccio Zani per essere tali non usati da questa famiglia sembra che in vari tempi si trattenese in Bologna prima d'aver fermato
