Le memorie di questa antica ed illustre famiglia risalgono a quel Zanier Tolberto, da Trevignano, che fu notaio imperiale a Treviso, nel 1349. I Zannini, o anche Zanier, ebbero dimora in vari paesi; un vecchio documento del 1366 ricorda un Zanier da Prata, capitano di Udine durante il dominio patriarcale. In un testamento in data 23 agosto 1528, rogato dal notaio Canali Girolamo, una certa Elena, abitante a San Polo a Venezia, vedova in primo voto di Martino de Pizonibus nomina esecutore nelle sue ultime volontà: Johannes q. Antonio de Pizonibus. Tale località può essere una delle varie situate nella provincia di Bergamo, e quindi si ha motivo a credere che i Zanier stabilitisi a Venezia nei secoli seguenti, siano provenienti dalla bergamasca.
