Ancient and noble Sicilian family, originally from Catania, with the noble title of baron of the Tonnara of Fiume, Noto and Caponero, that has worldwide spread, over the centuries. By ministerial decree of 10 June 1898, Mr. Carlo Zappalà Asmundo, of Carlo, of Giuseppe, with his son Raffaele and with his brother Giuseppe, obtained the recognition of the title of noble; title which, with the ministerial decree of 20 September 1911, was recognized to Mr. Giuseppe Zappalà, of Raffaele, of Giuseppe, father of Maria, Caterina, Raffaele, together with the title of baron of the Tonnara of Fiume, Noto and Caponero and, by ministerial decree of May 30, 1902, to Mr. Giuseppe Zappalà, of Carlo, of Giovan Battista. By Royal Decree of 15 June 1905, followed by Regie Letters Patenti of 14 January 1906, Carlo Zappalà Asmundo and Giuseppe Zappalà Asmundo were granted the transmittable title of Baron. The family is
