Antica ed illustre famiglia messinese, che, come riferisce il Galluppi, nelle sue opere "Stato presente della nobiltà messinese" (1881), "Nobiliario della città di Messina", stampato in Napoli nel 1878 e "L'Armerista Italiano", fu elevata alla nobiltà nel XV secolo, con un Giovan Domenico, creato cavaliere da re Ferdinando d'Aragona. Il casato, inoltre, è passato all'ordine di Malta come quarto di altra famiglia: nel 1555 in persona di Michele Moleti-Barbuto-Lanza e Riccio, e nel 1570 in persona di Giovanni Moleti, Cirino, Barbato e Anzalone. Altro ramo. Antica famiglia campana, della quale ricordiamo quel Zarbato, nominato Arcivescovo di Sorrento, nel 1105. Altro ramo. Antica famiglia veneta, oriunda della Sicilia, della quale annoveriamo quel Bartolomeo, insigne scrittore padovano e quel Girolamo, anch'egli padovano, vissuto sul calar del secolo XVII. Applicandosi alla medicina, il detto Girolamo, si fece ben presto conoscere con vantaggio non solo coll'esercizio di quell'arte e con le sue opere,
