Famiglia algherese le cui notizie risagono al secolo XVII. Erano commercianti discretamente agiati, alcuni esercitavano le professioni liberali. Con i fratelli dottor Diego che ottenne il cavalierato e la nobiltà nel 1647 e Giovanna Battista che ottenne gli stessi privilegi nel 1648, la famiglia si divise in due rami. Giovanni Battista si stabilì a Cagliari dove la sua discendenza si estinse nel corso del secolo XVII. Il dottor Diego visse ad Alghero dove i Carola continuarono a mantenere una discreta posizione e a ricoprire uffici pubblici di una certa importanza. Del ramo algherese della famiglia non si ebbero più notizie dal secolo XVIII. Fu costume delle più antiche famiglie, le quali dopo la caduta del Romano Imperio, in quella inondatione de' Barbari, havendo i loro cognomi, sicome gli studi, e altre cose belle smarrito e restati solo con semplici nomi, trarre di nuovo i loro cognomi, e il loro casato
