Antica ed illustre famiglia, di chiara e provata virtù, originaria di Chiaravalle, presso Jesi, e propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. A porre le basi per l'agiatezza della famiglia, fu un Giovanni, scomparso nel 1862, il quale, ottenne, per sè e per i suoi discendenti maschi e femmine, la nobiltà di Sassoferrato, sin dal 1838. I di lui figli, Ferdinando e Gaetano Francesco, proseguirono la di lui opera e dettero solidità alla nuova casa. Umberto I re d'Italia, infatti, con Decreti del 15 giugno 1882 e 11 maggio 1884, concesse al detto Ferdinando il titolo di conte, trasmissibile in linea primogenita maschile, e l'uso dell'arme. La Consulta Araldica (v. Elenco nob. uff.) dichiarò spettare a questa famiglia i titoli di conte (m. pr.); nobile dei conti (mf.); nobile di Sassoferrato (mf.).
