Quien fuera el principal ancestro y tronco propagador de este ilustre linaje se ignora por su remota antigüedad siendo por tanto tradicional e inmemorial la nobleza de sus hijos, los cuales han gozado siempre y en todas partes de la consideración y preeminencias correspondientes a sus lustrosos nacimientos, no siendo la más esclarecida de sus líneas la que se arraigó y floreció en Francia. El origen de este ilustre apellido, por referencias de historiadores de la época y otras averiguadas por Araldis en los archivos y registros de ciudades y otros privados, podríamos afirmar que este escudo u otro muy similar a él, apareció inicialmente desde el siglo XI al XIV, particularmente en la defensa de las tierras de Cataluña contra la invasión francesa de 1.285, especialmente en las heroicas resistencias de Castillo de Ampurias y Prelada.
