Nelle pagine introduttive inerenti le vicende del Palazzo Pretorio trascivemmo dal Rassino di Belforte gli estremi dell'investitura al capitano Daniele de L. della consignoria di Castelnuovo ed Alzano nel 1230; come già ebbimo a dire, la loro presenza in Castelnuovo è anteriore a tale conferimento per cui non riteniamo sia stato questo il motivo determinante che prevalse sull'opportunità o meno di continuare a risiedervi stabilmente. I L. discendono dall'antichissimo ed illustre casato padovano (948) dei signori di Conselve (Padova) che diramò in Toscana, a Roma, nel Veneto ove nel 1613 fu insignito della contea di Palù (Verona) dal Senato Veneto, in Lombardia a Castelnuovo e Tortona indi ad Alessandria e Torino, a Messina ed in Francia. Si presume che a Castelnuovo risiedessero sin dalla fine del sec. XII, poiché già nel 1221 un membro della famiglia, Tebaldo, è investito della carica consolare: con i colleghi ed i maggiorenti del luogo
