Originaria del castello omonimo di Bazzano sulla frontiera bolognese, e divisa in più rami sparsi nei suddetti paesi. Quello di Modena era considerato nel 1306 fra le famiglie nobili e potenti, e da esso trasse origine Virgina famosa poetessa del XVIII secolo maritata ad un Cavazzoni, e fu preceduta da un Giovanni, cronista vivente nel XIV secolo. A quello di Montefestino appartenne il Dott. Pellegrino, Podestà di Sassuolo nel 1694 e poi Governat. del Frignano nel 1704. Dal ramo di Vignola discendono Ercole Dottore ed Arciprete in patria nel XVI secolo a due governatori del poprio paese. Altro ramo. Originaria di Bazzano nel territorio bolognese. Matteo insigne Dott. di medicina e filosofia morto nella prima metà del XVIII secolo, fu l'ultimo della sua casa. Altro ramo. Nessuna voce sui Zazzani è stato possibile reperire in codici, cartari e testi di storia tortonese eccetuata appunto la loro partecipazione nel 1122 alla
