Chiarissima fin dal secolo XIII fu in Orvieto la famiglia Febei, che si gloria di annoverare quaranta dei suoi membri tra i supremi magistrati di quella città. Molti si distinsero nella carirera ecclesiastica. Pietro Paolo, morto nel 1649, Vescovo di Bagnorea, Giambattista nunzio nella Spagna sotto il Pontefice Clemente IV e Clemente X, e poi Vescovo di Todi edi Acquapendente, Francesco Maria Arciv. di Tarsi e Commendatore di S. Spirito in Sassi. Si segnalarono nella armi e nella politica. Jacopo Febeo podestà di Orvieto nel 1248; Teodorico ebbe nel 1261 il comando di una truppa di uomini d'arme a cavallo, e fu mandato in soccorso dei Fiorentini; Biagio e Teodoro ambasciatore a Roma per la propria patria; Stefano Febeo illustre giureconsulto. Altro ramo. Uscirono da questa famiglia: Gio. Battista, vescovo di Acquapendente; Pietro Paolo, assessore del Santo Uffizio (deceduto 1626), vescovo di Bagnorea; Francesco Maria, primo mastro delle cerimonie pontificie,
