Anticamente si denominavano Generi, leggendosi in un documento del 7 marzo 1355, dove Gerardo Generi di Barcellona è testimonio a Mompellieri allorquando Pietro Martini, mercani di Valenza, trasferisce a Bernardo di Vido i poteri conferitigli da Pascasio Mazana e sua moglie Muntaner, di esigere dai rappresentanti del comune di Venezia in Avignone 6000 fiorini d'oro loro dovuti. Col progredire dei secoli i Generi si chiamarono G. Ai nostri giorni un ramo abita a Torino, ed a Venezia un gentile poeta vernacolo, Eugenio, si è affermato pei suoi versi armoniosi, nei quali una fluida nota malinconica esalta le bellezze della Sirena lagunare. Lo stemma della famiglia è: d'azzurro al leone linguato d'oro rampante, sostenente un ramo di verde. Sopra l'azzurro, che è lo smalto più nobile ed assai antico, spicca il leone, eterno simbolo della forza terrena, che reca pel mondo il ramo della speranza, del libero arbitrio e dell'animo virtuoso.
