Alte und edle Ferrara-Familie, geschmückt mit dem Marquis-Titel, deren früheste Erinnerungen sich auf eine Branca Zerbinati beziehen, die am Hof von Nicolò III lebte. Antonio-Maria stand 1509 über der Munition und den Vorbereitungen für die Kriege von Herzog Alfons I. gegen die Venezianer; andere Antonio-Maria, einer der berühmtesten Kapitäne des 16. Jahrhunderts, stellte sich in den Dienst des Königs von Frankreich und erhielt die Auszeichnung des heiligen Michael; Luigi war ein Kommensal-Gentleman in Flandern des Erzherzogs Ernesto, machte dann den Feldzug Flanderns unter dem Erzherzog Albert und kehrte nach Hause zurück, wurde zum Feldmeister der päpstlichen Truppen ernannt und 1614 von Paul V. zum Gouverneur von Ancona ernannt. Ein Zweig dieser Familie zog nach Venedig.
