Família ferraresa antiga e nobre, decorada com o título de marquês, cujas primeiras lembranças se referem a uma Branca Zerbinati que viveu na corte de Nicolò III. Antonio-Maria, em 1509, estava acima das munições e dos preparativos para as guerras do duque Alfonso I contra os venezianos; outro Antonio-Maria, um dos capitães mais famosos do século XVI, colocou-se a serviço do rei da França e obteve a decoração de São Miguel; Luigi era um cavalheiro comensal na Flandres do arquiduque Ernesto, depois fez a campanha da Flandres sob o arquiduque Albert, e voltou para casa foi nomeado mestre de campo das tropas papais e, em 1614, por Paulo V, ele foi governador de Ancona. Um ramo desta família mudou-se para Veneza.
